Art Meets Technology: Italian Museum Masterpieces Now Online with Google and World Trade Display
The masterpieces preserved in Italy’s most prestigious museums are now accessible to everyone thanks to the digitization project promoted by Google as part of the “Grow with Google Milan” initiative. The goal is to make culture and art a shared heritage, overcoming physical barriers and allowing anyone, anywhere in the world, to virtually explore the wonders of Italy’s artistic legacy.
The collections of Milan and Rome have been fully digitized in ultra-high resolution through the advanced Art Camera technology, which captures every detail with exceptional precision. These images, now available online, allow users to observe artworks, frescoes, and brushstrokes with unprecedented clarity, offering a virtual experience that closely mirrors a real museum visit.
Enhancing this immersive journey are the interactive solutions by World Trade Display (WTD): high-definition touch tables and floor-standing displays installed in several museum venues enable visitors to engage directly with the digitized artworks, exploring thematic paths, insights, and curiosities in an intuitive and dynamic way.
In total, Google has created a vast collection of ultra-high-quality images and 131 new Street View virtual tours, allowing users to navigate museum halls as if they were physically present, providing an immersive, educational, and interactive experience.
The collaboration between Google and World Trade Display stands as a tangible example of how technological innovation can enhance cultural heritage, making it accessible to a global audience while promoting a new way of experiencing art — one that seamlessly blends tradition and digital innovation.
